The
present shape of Local Government System is the vision of General
Pervaiz Musharaf, President of Pakistan with the purpose to devolve
the powers from upper level to lower level. I took over the charge
of Tehsil Nazim Jhelum on 17th October, 2005 and was
faced with the shortage of staff at Tehsil Municipal Administration.
It was a challenge to work with limited staff keeping in mind the
wide range of responsibilities entrusted to TMA under the new local
body system. However I believe that every challenge is an
opportunity in disguise that can bring the best out of people faced
with it. My challenge was to make TMA Jhelum a vibrant and viable
organization that could provide quality municipal services to the
citizens of Jhelum. Since primary role of TMA is to provide basic
amenities to the inhabitants of Tehsil Jhelum, I explored every
opportunity to raise funds for the TMA whether it be from own
sources or by seeking grants from external agencies. Likewise, a
water supply scheme valued at Rs. 9 crore was initiated with the
technical and financial assistance of Punjab Development Fund
Company (PMDFC). Following
works are being carried out under this scheme:-
1.
17 new tubewells are being established in the city.
2.
Construction of two water tanks having a capacity of 1 lac
gallon each.
3.
Construction of storm water drain as joint venture with Rs.4
crore.
In
addition to the above, following machinery has been procured to
provide better facilities to the general public.

I
assure the citizens of Tehsil Jhelum that I will continue my efforts
to come up to their expectations with the help of Almighty ALLAH and
will not leave any stone unturned till all their grievances and
problems are redressed. I
